Parent's Rights

Parents are the number one stakeholder in public education. I beleive that there is absolutely nothing that happens in school that a parent should not be aware of. The State and OSPI would have school districts lie to parents, and I, along with my fellow board members, put a stop that that by amending Board Procedure 3211P to remove language that prevents schools from being honest with parents.

The Importance of the Local School Board

Lynden Public Schools consists of amazing educators. In my three years' experience on the board I have yet to find anyone that isn't committed to student success. Even so, state law places a tremendous amount of authority with the school board. I take this authority seriously, and stand against any action that weakens the school board. The board are the elected representatives of the citizens of the district and if we cede our authority to the administration, however competent and integral they may be, we aren't serving those we represent. That's why, in 2023, I opposed changes to policies that would have insulated the board from direct participation in the hiring of district administrators, and instead helped amend the policy to allow board members to participate in interviews of key staff.
