Important work

Federal law prohibits discrimination against females in sports, and that includes high school sports. I stand 100% opposed to biological males participating in sporting events reserved for girls.

Actions speak louder than words. The Lynden School Board has worked as team to take the following actions to protect girls' and girls' sports:

-
WIAA Amendments - We directed the superintendent to author an amendment to WIAA regulations that would prohibit males participating in girls sports
-
Building Consensus - We've worked with no less than a dozen other districts in order to build consensus and apply pressure to WSSDA, OSPI, and the legislature
-
Federal Support - We've written a letter to the U.S. Attorney General asking for support in the State.
-
Legal Action - We've engage in legal action against the State.

What about trans kids?

I understand that not everyone agrees with this work, and some beleive these actions are harmful to transgender and gender expansive students. I understand their concern, and the last thing I want to do is harm kids. Which is why I stand for truth. And the truth is that boys are boys and girls are girls.
Even so, I feel for students who struggle with gender dysphoria and intersex issues. My hope and prayer for them, to quote Samuel D. Ferguson, is that they "move from a state of pain and incongruence toward one peace and wholeness". This cannot be done from the outside in, it must happen from the inside out. All of us struggle with understanding who we are. Transgender kids struggle probably more than anyone, and they need help and care, which starts with telling them the truth.
